What is Lectio Divina?

Traditionally Lectio Divina is known as the contemplative practice of sacred (or divine) reading with Christian scriptures that moves through 4 stages; reading, meditation, prayer, contemplation. You can learn more about traditional Lectio Divina here.

How does Lo-Fi & Hushed practice Lectio Divina?

Lo-Fi & Hushed engages Lectio Divina with the traditional four movements–reading, meditation, prayer, contemplation–and twists it a touch with embodied preparation, poetry, and asynchronous reflection. Go here to get the full details.

Will I be seen on screen by others or the host during the practice?

No, the only person that is seen on the screen is the leader of the practice.

Will that rascal Paul Swanson always lead Lo-Fi & Hushed?

Paul will be the usual leader, but may invite in other teachers to lead along the way. 

Any guideline on sharing reflections each week in Substack?

Yes, they will be posted above the comment section in each Lo-Fi & Hushed Substack invite. The main guideline is be kind, to yourself and others.

Frequently Asked (Communication) Questions

How do I get notified of a Lo-Fi & Hushed session and get a link to connect live?

• For the Wednesday Lo-Fi & Hushed sessions for supporting subscribers, an invite will be sent on the Tuesday evening before via Substack and email.

• For the solstice and equinox Lo-Fi & Hushed Sessions for both free and supporting subscribers, an an invite will be included in that month’s NonRequired Reading List (September, December, March, June). It will be posted on Substack.

What if I miss a Lo-Fi & Hushed session, can I still access it?

• For the Wednesday Lo-Fi & Hushed sessions for supporting subscribers, an audio-only version will be posted on the corresponding Substack page for that week’s practice. Video is only available in the live practice session.

• For the solstice and equinox Lo-Fi & Hushed sessions, an audio-only version be will publicly posted on that month’s NonRequired Reading. Video is only available in the live practice session.

What are the tech requirements?

You will need a computer, tablet, or smartphone and internet connection. There are two basic ways to join the live stream of Lo-Fi & Hushed:

• Download the Riverside App (iOS or Android)
• Access from either a Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge Web browsers (it must be either Chrome or Edge or it will not work. Them the tech rules)

Why call it “Lo-Fi & Hushed”?

“Lo-Fi” because we want to keep the barriers of technology low and authenticity high. There is no tech support. All info about live streaming issues can be found here.

“Hushed” because this contemplative practice will typically happen when my family is sleeping and I hope not to wake them. (without a doubt, my kids will interrupt at some point)
